Wed, January 05, 2000 - Forwarded the photo to the "Senior Sponsor/Big Brother" and quickly received the following reply:
Aloha...
Thanks for forwarding this to me. Ah, what memories it brings back. I still have my senior yearbook and am very familiar with that photo. There is a story that we tell at our reunions concerning K... and some of our other "slaves". Because there were more freshman than seniors, a few of us had two frosh assigned to us. After the Orientation assembly in McCabe Gym, the freshmen were required to help us carry our books between classes. As we walked up the oval to go to our first classes, Larry Keeno and I asked our freshmen who they had for first period. When they responded "Brother Pleimann", Larry and I grabbed our books from them and told them to "RUN". You see as freshman we were students of Brother Pleimann and when some of us were late for his first class, we got bonked on the head with a baseball bat and had to stand along one of the chalkboards for that period. We like to think that we helped to further their education in more ways than one.
One thing I should point out to you is that I legally changed my name from Richard K... T... to T.... I now have only one name. It is what I think of myself as, since I was called T... or T...boy all my life. There are a few school chums that still call me Richard, but I tend to answer to that less and less as time goes by.
May you have a great 2000. Thanks for the memories.
Aloha pumehana, malama pono,
T...
PS: You may be interested in knowing that the Class of 1968 still gets together at the Alumni Clubhouse every year on the last Friday of July. We also plan our biggies (10, 15, 20, 25, 30, etc.) around that same weekend. Therefore our classmates don't have to wonder when our next reunion will be. It's standard practice. Also because most of our class turns 50 this year, we are planning a class cruise to Alaska departing from Vancouver, Canada, on Memorial Day, May 29th this year for a seven day trip to Anchorage. We will have a mini-get-together in Seattle, because about 10 classmates live in that area.
If you are ever in the Mo'ili'ili area on the last Friday of July, stop in at the Alumni Clubhouse and say hello. There are always good pupus and great stories.
Me kealoha pau 'ole,
