Mon, November 5, 2001 - Condolences

Hi Guys,

Just got some bad news about classmate Tony Dano. It was brought to my attention by John Vierra that Tony had passed away a couple days ago due to complications with diabetes. We send our condolences and sympathy to his family and will have him in our prayers. As far as we know, only services will be on the mainland and a small private prayer gathering here.

Wish you all a safe and Happy Thanksgiving! Take Care!

Alan Young

Tue, January 23, 2001 - Happy Chinese New Year this January 24th--our Year of the Snake. I was just in Hong Kong and visited Andrew Lau, who is a manager at Abbott Laboratories now. Here are some pictures and a greeting...I also included a scenic photo from Hong Kong.

Fri, December 1, 2000 - Yongsan, Korea - Kanalui Lost and Found:

Aloha to Everybody:

Just to let you guys know that couple weeks ago I bumped into Haven Apana here in Yongsan, Korea. He retired a few years ago from the Army and is working with an Army signal unit. He has been here for a number of years. His email address is on this list.

I was assigned to Korea in August this year and will be here for two years. Anybody coming this way let me know. Good shopping down in Itaewon.

Sun, April 9, 2000 - Sid Piosalan flew in to D.C. for a VFW conference at the Hyatt Regency-Crytal City. Bill Coester and I got together with him for lunch before he headed back home. A retired swabbie since 1993, Sid traded in his life aboard ship as a Signalman for the cool slopes of upcountry Maui. He now occupies his time as a part-time teacher, tennis instructor, and hotel security on the weekends. Sid reports that he ran into Bobby Hall and Richard Todd at the recent St. Louis-Baldwin game on Maui and that he heard Richard McGurn also is somewhere on the Valley Isle. Here's a current photo we shot just after lunch and a "then and now" in the opposite panel.

Sun, March 26, 2000 - Ken Ordenstein is in D.C. again for a conference. Last time he dropped in we checked out the Civil War battlefield at Chancellorsville, VA. Buggah is really into this stuff--climbing over gun emplacements, etc. This time we headed north to Gettysburg, PA, and then on to the Antietam battlefield at Sharpsburg, MD. Here're some pix at the Gettysburg Visitor Center, Little Round Top where Chamberlain and the 20th Maine held the Union left flank, and the site of Pickett's Charge from the Union lines. Only funny thing about the trip is that Kenny likes checking out the cemeteries at these Civil War sites almost as much as he likes rummaging over the battlefield itself.

Sun, March 18, 2000 - Got ono for some goodies from home so ended up writing Alan Young to find out what's on the menu at Young's Fish Market. The Youngs moved the Kapalama store across the street to the City Square (old Kapalama GEM's) in January 2000 and have been busy with the new store since, but Alan found the time to write back.

Bill Coester and I put an order in for some of the less perishable stuff. Here a picture from the old Young's Fish Market back in 1998 along with a copy of the current menu.
