What's Up???

Thu, Sep. 17, 1998 - While perusing various websites, ran across a September 24, 1997 University of the Pacific (UOP) article that mentioned a familiar name. The article described a Tokay High School (Lodi, CA) teacher whose students presented UOP with a collection of several hundred oral histories in manuscript, cassette tape and videotape--the students had interviewed various people from the area who told stories about their lives. The students' teacher was none other than former Kanalui advisor, Steve Routt.

Tracked Steve down to Pine Grove, CA, (no wisecracks Bobby Hall just 'cuz that's what I do) and fired off an e-mail to see if it was the same Steve Routt who had been our class advisor. Sure 'nuff, Steve wrote back:

I'm teaching high school in Lodi, CA and will retire this year. I live in the
foothills in the town of Sutter Creek, a small gold rush era town. If you want
a taste of the area try www.cdepot.net our local provider, for local info.
There's so much to say, but I'll keep this a short note now to let you know
     you have the right guy.

Steve also wrote a note in our Guestbook When you've got a minute or two, drop him a line.

Fri, Sep. 4, 1998 - Always on the move, LTC Kent S. Nabarrete, USA, has again failed to elude his niele classmates, who have tracked him down from his previous assignment at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to his current assignment at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. At Fort Bragg, Kent was the Battalion Commander of the 56th Medical Evacuation Battalion, which consists of approximately 480 officers, non-commissioned officers and enlisted personnel. Fort Bragg was his last assignment flying MEDEVAC helicopters. Kent's current assignment at Fort Sam Houston, is Chief of the Leadership Development Branch of the U.S. Army's Academy of Health Sciences. He reports that all newly commissioned Army Medical Department Officers (approximately 2000+ per year) attend the Officer Basic Course, which falls under his scope of responsibility. As a member of the instructor cadre, Nabarrete supervises 20 other instructors, who hold the rank of Captain. He finds the job "to be an awesome responsibility," especially since the officers they train now will influence the Army Medical Department for 20-30 years into the future.

Kent would like to see a "then and now" photo album for this website, where everyone sends in a current picture for posting behind the high school photos in the Rogue's Gallery. He believes it would be fun for everyone to laugh and e-mail each other on how funny we all look now--"Man,we were soooooo young!!!"

Those who wish to send a current picture can mail it to Bob Moritsugu, 975 Unit B South Rolfe Street, Arlington, VA 22204-4538. The pictures will be returned after they have been processed for use with the website.

Wed, Sep. 2, 1998 - Cardiologist, Dr. Bill Dang, wants to know if we have a list of e-mail addresses for everyone. Well, not quite, but we've modified the Class Roster page to include an icon after the names of those classmates for whom we do have e-mail addresses. The address itself isn't visible--all you have to do is double-click on the icon. We've only included those classmates who have posted their e-mail addresses in either this or the School's website and need to check with others to see if it's ok to include the e-mail icon after their names. We'd like to be able to provide the e-mail addresses for everyone, but privacy is of major concern. What we could consider doing is passwording the page with the e-mail roster, providing the password only to classmates, and leaving a non-e-mail version open to the public.

Let us know what you think. Just double-click this icon to e-mail us, and how about letting us know whether it's all right to post your address at the same time. Thanks!!
